Red Sands Radio Competition 2009
Listeners need to guess how many records will be played on Red Sands Radio between 07.00 - 09.00 on 12th July.
The prize is a special non-landing trip for two on Red Sands Radio's tender, the X-Pilot to the home of Red Sands Radio(Red Sands Forts).
Situated 7 miles from Whitstable the Red Sands Forts were built and then sunk into position in 1943. Manned by the Army their heavy guns & sensitive radar was removed in 1958.The abandoned Forts were thereafter scavenged for materials & parts until Offshore Radio took possession in 1964. By 1967 the Offshore Stations had gone & by 1970 so had other interested parties. Radio wasn't to appear again until 2007 when Red Sands Radio once again broadcast from the now somewhat dilapidated Forts.
The lure of the Forts is phenomenal. people stare from the coast, and take trips in all kinds of boats to view the impressive giants at close quarters
The closest guess was from Annabelle who loves Red Sands Radio so is a worthy winner of two places to go out & see the Red Sands Fort from the comfort of our tender the X-Pilot
